Pimamour: the reta(i)ling story and philosophy

Pimamour is a small business run mainly by an American-French-Thai couple operating out of New York (and rural Thailand sometimes). And it’s a long story. To make it short, we held various positions in hospitality, international education management and diplomacy around the world (France, Turkey, US, Afghanistan, India, South East Asia…) while developing creative projects in graphic arts and photography in the places where we lived (sometimes comfortable, sometimes broke): the Bronx, Bed Stuy, Bangkok, Paris, Kabul, San Franscisco, Mumbai, Sai Gon, Istanbul, Nong No, Athie…

INSPIRATION: SMART DAILY ART

A global pop culture at large is our main inspiration: it goes from classic fine art (that’s pop culture, indeed) to pop-art & expressionism, ancient civilizations to Asian cultures, street vibes and photography to hip hop trends and funny daily memes or casual things.

And we love original printed apparel! Why? Because they are unique (and ours truly are, home crafted throughout the years), they are fashionably versatile and they tell all about our specialness in a cool and trendy way. Conveying an art or a political or a social or a witty or a mood or a whatever statement, they are fashionable daily philosophy on fabric.

For Pimamour Woman's Mood Fashion, we handpicked affordable trendy clothing items for you to create unique sets if you feel like mixing them with our printed apparel. We see ourselves as a friendly fashion destination for busy people. Any age, any body type; just a strong sense of fashion. Because we believe that if you look good, you feel good.

PHILOSOPHY: REAL PEOPLE

Some designs and art pieces may feel offensive (even to us), what could be commercially risky. Especially when marketing gurus tell us to stick to specific trends, when algorithms care only about key words and niches, and when the world is highly polarized when it comes to social issues. We should pick one “target” and flatter our customers, they say. Or we should offer some blend-consensual-marketing-no-making-waves-nothing-is-going-on products. But people are real and Pimamour is Pimamour: a store, a public space, a community. Should we all agree about everything? Do customers agree with all businesses? Can business owners agree with all their customers? Nope. We are people, we shared some ideas, disagree on others. But we respect each other and definitely share a (good) taste for trivial pop-culture.

That’s why in those socially polarized times, Pimamour stands on the side of… pop-culture stuff retailing: no Green Washing, no BLM Washing, no Rainbow Washing, just people with their differences. That’s Pimamour’s main value: all special, all humans, all blood and flesh. Because whatever is made of good deeds matters.

We use strategies and marketing recipes that suit our values and our goals (being known and selling) but if we define our marketing, marketing does not define us: our identities matter first.

Feel free to interact with us whenever you want: we are small, we cannot compete with big businesses when it comes to Customer Relationship but we will absolutely try our best.
